Our story

We started because good engineering kept getting sold badly.

ProLaps began in 2019 with four engineers who had spent years watching capable teams deliver disappointing projects. The engineering was rarely the problem. The problem was the shape of the relationship — scopes nobody believed, estimates nobody owned, and a handover that left the client holding a system they could not maintain.

So we built the company around the parts that usually break. Discovery is paid, fixed-price and yours to keep whether you hire us or not. Scope changes come with a written impact assessment before work starts. Every engagement ends with documentation and a handover, because we would rather you stayed by choice.

Seven years later that has grown into 480 people across four time zones, a games studio, an applied AI practice, and a client retention rate of 96%. The commitments have not changed, mostly because they are the reason clients stay.

Timeline

How we got here.

2019

Founded in Wyoming

Four engineers, one client, and a registered office in Sheridan.

2021

Remote-first by design

Grew past 120 people across three continents without opening a second office.

2022

Games division

Spun up a dedicated studio for Unity and Unreal production work.

2023

AI practice

Formalised an applied ML team after two years of embedded work.

2025

European clients in-hours

Built a UK/EU delivery pod so European accounts get overlap all day.

2026

480 people

Four time zones, fourteen countries served, still no subcontracting.

How we think

Four things we will not trade away.

These are load-bearing. When a commercial decision conflicts with one of them, the commercial decision loses.

01

Say the inconvenient thing early

If a deadline is not achievable or an approach is wrong, you hear it in week one — not in the retrospective. Uncomfortable early beats expensive late.

02

Boring technology, interesting problems

We reach for the proven tool unless there is a reason not to. Novelty belongs in the problem you are solving, not the database you picked to solve it.

03

Write it down

Architecture decisions, trade-offs and the reasoning behind them get recorded. A year from now, somebody — possibly us — will need to know why.

04

Leave clients able to leave

No proprietary lock-in, no undocumented systems. We would rather be kept because the work is good than because walking away is impossible.

Working with us

What clients say made the difference.

Senior by default

The median ProLaps engineer has nine years behind them. You will not be paying senior rates to train someone on your codebase.

Fixed scope, honest change

We quote a scope and hold it. When something genuinely changes, you get a written impact assessment before any work starts — not a surprise on the invoice.

You own everything

Code, infrastructure, documentation and the IP. No proprietary framework you can only maintain by keeping us on retainer.

Overlapping hours

A remote-first team spread across North America, Europe and South Asia means at least four hours of overlap with almost any client, and a handover that follows the sun.

Tested before shipped

Automated regression, load and security testing are in the pipeline from sprint one. Quality is not a phase we get to if there is time left.

Documented handover

Every engagement ends with runbooks, architecture records and a working knowledge transfer — whether or not you keep working with us.

Process

The five stages, every time.

01

Discover

1–3 weeks

We sit with your team, your users and your data before we write anything. You leave discovery with a scope, an architecture and a number — not a proposal full of maybes.

02

Design

2–5 weeks

Interaction design and system design happen together. You get a prototype you can click and an architecture your CTO can challenge, at the same time.

03

Build

Two-week sprints

Working software every fortnight, in your environment, behind feature flags. Nothing is 90% done for three months. You see velocity, burn and risk in the same dashboard we do.

04

Launch

2–4 weeks

Phased rollout, load tested, with rollback rehearsed before it is needed. We run the launch with you, on your side of the incident channel.

05

Evolve

Ongoing

Ninety days of hypercare, then whatever shape you need — a retained squad, a support SLA, or a clean handover to your own team with the documentation to make it stick.

We had been told a nine-day credit decision was simply how regulated lending works. ProLaps did not argue with us about it — they went and rebuilt the process with our risk team in the room, and now it takes under an hour.
